Last Thursday we went to the English Cemetery. There were many people buried from different nationalities such as English, Spanish, American, Canadian, etc...
The Cemetery is in the centre of Malaga near the bullring.
The opening times are:
From Tuesdays to Saturdays from 9:30 to 14:30 and on Sundays from 10:30 to 12:30.
The Cemetery is supported with the donations of the visitors. Now we can visit it but we can't bury anyone there.
At the entrance we can see an Anglican church called Saint George's Church and it is an Anglican Church.
William Mark was the person who founded this cemetery because before of this cemetery the people who weren't Catholic were buried in the beach.
There are many famous people buried there like Edward Norton, he was general consul of USA.
In Dr. Gerald Maurice Jewson's tombstone are written these lines:
"Here lies a man forever kind, of gentle, loving, noble mind, and through our tears we all can see how good live in you and me."
Mr. Robert Boyd was executed at the "Playa de San Andrés" on 11th December 1831 because he fought for the liberty of the spanish people.
In 1940s four military men died and they were two Sergeants, Flying office, and a commander.
Gerald Brenan (amigo de España) is buried in the cemetery. He was born on 7th April 1894 in Malta and he died in Alhaurín el Grande in 1987.
His wife, Gamel Woosley, is also buried at the cemetery and there is a quotation on her tombstone which says:
"Fear no more the heat of the sun."
Also there is a Canadian married couple buried together, their names are Esthel Mabel and George Gordon and a master painter called Thomas William Jacques who lived in the 20th century.
Finally on the graves we can seen Asparragus.
